In various conversations with friends, strangers, or during interviews, I've encountered a wide array of questions, ranging from questions about waking up with impaired vision in my left eye to ponderings about what's next on my list.
Today, I'd like to jump into three questions that have been posed to me recently:
Does the list ever change?
Absolutely. I've never removed anything from the list simply because it's challenging. If it's on there, I'll give it my best shot. You never truly know what you can achieve until you try. Have I added items? Certainly. For example, officiating a wedding wasn't originally on my list, but when my cousin asked me, I realized it could be a memorable experience for both of us. Occasionally, something will occur to me, and I'll debate whether it's worth adding. While I haven't made many new additions, the list, much like our passions, can evolve as we do.
How are these opportunities being granted?
To simplify, it's a matter of chance. I've gone with the same approach from the beginning: ask. If someone says no, that's fine. You'd never get a positive response if you didn't ask in the first place. If it's something I lack a connection to, I'll send an email introducing myself, explain the list, and why the particular item is significant to me. Does it always yield success? No, and that's okay. I've encountered rejections or even silence in response. It's simply a game of chance. However, if it's something I'm connected to or don't require assistance with, it's much easier to cross off. For instance, meeting Cody Johnson involved asking a friend for help, while attending the World Series was a matter of buying tickets.
Who's funding all of this?
I recently was asked this while talking to The Mike Calta Show on WHPT-FM in Tampa, Florida, and I found it to be worth sharing. My wife and I have. It hasn't been easy, but we've managed financially as a duo. Fortunately, we've been both fortunate and strategic throughout. For example, when visiting my family's roots in Hawaii, a typically costly trip for anyone, Karina's sister generously provided her timeshare, significantly alleviating our expenses. Additionally, we utilized travel points for flights and scouted deals through airlines. While I admit that I would have swiftly tackled the list if money weren't a concern, the reality is that we're navigating this journey independently. Someone once suggested a GoFundMe, but I promptly dismissed the idea. I believe GoFundMe campaigns should be reserved for those truly in need, such as individuals facing medical bills or who have lost their home to unforeseen circumstances, rather than for personal endeavors like mine.
I hope I got to answer some questions you may have had. Though, if I can answer any others please reach out. I am more than happy to answer any questions that come up.
