Music is a huge thing in my life, you’ll often see it mentioned in this blog. As it is one of my biggest passions outside of sports.
So, I want to introduce you to a song that resonates with me and my visual struggles. It’s called "Enemy” by the country duo Muscadine Bloodline.
The song comes from the perspective of someone dealing with an internal struggle of life, addiction, and relationships.
The moment I heard this song I found it also fit what I was going through.
In the chorus the song goes:
My only enemy is me
I’m up against something I can’t beat
Well I’m good at putting on a show, but in my mind it ain’t how it goes
My only enemy is me
I feel that. My enemy is me, my body failed me. And for me a loss of vision is a battle I am not able to win. I can put up a good fight but ultimately my vision has gotten the best of me to this point.
I’ve been asked about my positivity and how I have it all together.
Truthfully, I don’t. It’s like the song says I’m good at putting on a show. Though at times I’ll be honest it can be sad, and it can be challenging. But I have to put on a happy face, I believe and move forward.
I believe this song hits home with anyone dealing with an internal struggle. No matter if it’s decisions of our own doing that got us to a challenging moment or if the decision was made for us by someone or something else.
It’s certainly one I don’t skip when it comes on, because it’s my struggle in a song.
I’ll have more songs to share. Enemy is just the first.
